Welcome to the Yogalosophy homepage, where you can follow the intention of the month.

What is Yogalosophy (View Video):

I have found that changing my attitude affects my emotions, and my body changes accordingly. Sometimes I am motivated by nurture, sometimes by intensity. My motivational hybrid technique revolves around cycles of change. Yogalosophy can help you use the natural flow to recreate your body through intentions, emotions, and other motivational triggers.

PRACTICE IMPERFECTLY

“You already have a perfect body”.

Practice Imperfectly

September is YOGA MONTH. Many people want to start, but hesitate because they feel like they have to wait until they can execute with perfection. You don't have to wait until you are 5 lbs. lighter, have more money, or are in the perfect relationship to start enjoying what you have. You can start exactly where you are. When I was a child first finding yoga and discovering my body, I put a lot of pressure on myself to be perfect. I felt that in order to be happy, I had to keep striving for a level of perfection that would fulfill that feeling. The catch was that once I felt that I had achieved that level of perfection, I felt the burden of maintaining that, and could not be satisfied. After incurring some injuries, I had to shift my perspective. Rather than reaching a specific goal, I tried to adopt an attitude of finding the perfection in what already existed. There is a way to find what is perfect in each pose, each moment...not just the result. I have even had to modify my practice, be less rigid in my form and be open to new ideas of perfection. It is my imperfections that allow my vulnerability and accessibility. Perfectly imperfect!

Try this exercise: list 3 things that you can see as perfect already. In your practice (and we know what practice makes....), see if you can remind yourself that this is already exactly as it should be. For a fresh perspective, explore a yoga that you have never done before. Since it will be new, you will have an opportunity to PRACTICE IMPERFECTLY! Here are some choices: KUNDALINI, HATHA, IYENGAR, BIKRAM, VINYASA, ANUSARA

Try Consistency, Get in a Routine

One of my favorite things about teaching, is helping people to create routine. I wish I could do the laundry just once, or take a shower and that would be that: done, but maintenance requires consistency - and believe me, there’s no one that is more resistant to it than myself. Sometimes routine can feel so boring! It's taken me a long time to understand that it is this consistency that allows my body to fall into place and feel safe. If you think about it, anything that grows responds to routine: plants require a certain amount of light and water on a regular basis, children need routines for sleeping and eating, and pets need consistent walks, water, and mealtimes. For me, my body is the one thing that I come back to consistently. Through my father's passing, my breakups, the house burning down, losing jobs.. I always come back to exercise to stabilize me.

If we simply show up on a daily basis and practice, the body has a way of organizing itself and actually falls into place naturally. I encourage you this month to create a routine for yourself, whatever that is. We are what we do consistently. And it's not the one piece of cake that we have which makes us gain weight. It’s about consistency and moderation.

I encourage you to find a class you like this month. See if you can make it a part of your routine, and schedule it in to your calendar consistently. Click here for my class schedule (COMING SOON!) and join me daily.

Self-care is the Key to Self-esteem

Everyone has a body they need to take care of. More than anything else, self-care has helped me to build self-esteem. This body is a gift, and my job in this life is to take care of this amazing instrument. Ah, to be able to move and use my body. It is amazing how we take care of our cars and our pets, and we put our bodies as the lowest priority. We would never ignore a flashing red light on our dashboard, but if we have a pain in our body we tend to ignore it, thinking it will go away. Usually we wait until we are ill to realize that our bodies and our health mean so much. I am a doer and tend to put myself last, so I have learned the hard way to take care of myself. Now I’ve learned to rest when I am tired, I remind myself to prepare a healthy meal or drink water, and I move to keep my body supple and responsive. When I take care of myself I thrive and self care becomes like a meditation. The repetition becomes a meditation on loving myself. Click here for my tips and links on how to be good to yourself through healthy habits.

CLEANLINESS
It seems that there are only so many hours in the day, and sometimes I wonder how it can be possible do everything I need to do. Brushing my teeth, washing my face, taking my supplements, flossing, conditioning my hair, exercising...the list goes on! Please click onto my tips and links to check on some hygiene tips concerning working the lymphatic system, detoxifying, and general self care products. I have found several really simple things that make me feel vibrant , and are easy to add into the routine.

EATING HABITS

Detoxification
Twice a year I give myself a tune-up. I used to think that I was undisciplined because I couldn't be super restrictive with my diet all the time. Then I realized, I can do it in concentrated periods. I do some sort of detox to clean up my diet in September and also in April. There are several options for me. Check out my YOGALOSOPHY FACEBOOK page to get my options for possible short term cleanses, and watch me on FACEBOOK videos as I begin my detox cleanse for 7 days starting on SEPT 15th. Join me and we can do it together, or just observe my process and cheer me on!

Replenishment
Try eliminating one problem food consistently for the next 28 days.
It isn't easy to just cut one thing out, it helps to replace it with something.
I am giving up my on again off again relationship: coffee.
This month i will replace my coffee with : green tea and honey.
Eliminating: processed grains It is also important to add one food a day that is healthy: I am adding an extra 16 oz of water, fish, and greens daily this month

SERVICE
Do a good turn for someone this month. Find a way that your self care aids others. When I was visiting the set of Marley and Me last year, I was asked by Jennifer Aniston to act in a video campaign that she was directing. I was very nervous, but because I knew I was serving a bigger purpose and helping others, that somehow it was doable. It was very helpful that this was to serve a cause bringing awareness to the atrocities in Burma. That focus allowed me to do something that built my self-esteem in more ways than one, while the focus was on helping others. (CLICK HERE FOR BURMA VIDEO)
